As well as purchasing books in the bookshop, you may place orders by email, telephone or by using this website. Books can be held at the bookshop for collection (within a reasonable period) or sent to you or to a third party. We will try to obtain any book, old or new.

A very important part of my Chelsea Sunday is a stroll down to the King’s Road to John Sandoe’s bookshop… Apart from browsing, the chat in the shop is terribly important. They’ve read it all and they’re all highly literate and funny people.

For the last thirty years Sandoe’s has produced lists of recommended new titles four times a year – Winter, Spring, Summer & Books for Christmas, of which the latter is always the largest. These can be picked up in the shop, sent out by post or emailed to you, as you wish. The current list and 3 previous lists may be viewed on this website. Sign up here if you wish to receive these electronically, or telephone or email us with your address should you prefer to receive them by post.
On consultation with a customer, we can tailor-make any regular package of books and its delivery. This might range from an annual birthday present to a goddaughter to monthly consignments of selected new books. We are happy to advise on book choices and have many years’ successful experience of such arrangements. We also offer a range of subscriptions that can be ordered online here.
In addition, we arrange for standing orders for book series as new titles are published – for instance the Yale Pevsner ‘Buildings of England’ series, the ‘Penguin Monarchs‘ series, The Public Catalogue Foundation publications, Persephone, Slightly Foxed, Penguin Maigret series, Everyman’s and the like.
Sandoe’s has long experience of supplying libraries to private clients. In some cases these are one-off arrangements, ranging from the relatively modest to substantial collections. We also maintain the libraries of clients by supplying new publications in the required fields on a regular basis.
As well as numerous private clients, we work with institutions, museums, private clubs, auction houses, schools, and so forth. We also work with decorators and designers. Click here for more details.
While our primary business is with new books, we are happy to source out-of-print books whenever requested, and have good relations with the antiquarian trade. We do not purchase or value secondhand or out of print books.
