Casey’s first novel, recently reissued, is set on an imaginary island off the west coast of Ireland. It traces the conflict between traditional rural values and those of the Swinging Sixties. A poet, playwright and artist, as well as a celebrated horse trainer (who tried to breed a ‘zorse’, keeping a couple of zebras for the purpose), Casey lived many lives, a number of which find their way into this startlingly beautiful novel. First published in 1971.
